My ears just got raped by the Sydney Symphony.
I mean it was good ear rape but I can't help feeling that the second half of the program was just a tad over the top. I mean I know it was written by an Italian but really:
- 28 violins
- 12 violas
- 11 cellists + one solo cellist
- 10 double basses
- 2 flutes + one piccolo
- 3 solo oboists and a oboe/cor anglais
- 2 clarinets + a bass clarinet
- 3 bassoons + a contra bassoon (contra faggot...)
- 4 horns
- 4 trumpets
- 4 trombones
- 1 tuba
- full percussion and then extra shit like this giant ratchet thing, gongs and suspended drum things with pegs attached to them.
- 1 harp
- 1 piano
- 48 member choir
- 1 solo soprano
- 1 solo baritone
- 1 solo child soprano
and it went for 1 HOUR AND 20 MINUTES.

I couldn't hear the words of the choir or anything all I could hear was LOUD and OBOE. There were these percussionists whacking this metal thing with a hammer, like an actual hammer and the oboes kept playing.
I mean it really just topped off a great night of let me see
